Janet's Potato Pie
We have this potato pie on new years eve. Its a long cook, up to 4 hours.
Ingredients
- 500g stewing steak, in 2 cm dice
- 1 onion, chopped
- 1.5kg potato, peeled and diced to 2 cm
- 1 carrot, peeled and diced
- 1 beef stock pot, made to 500 ml of stock
- For the pastry
- 75g butter
- 150g flour, sieved
- ½ tsp table salt
Method
Add onions, meat and stock in a dish with a lid. Cook in oven on 160°C for 1 hour.
Add potatoes and carrot. Salt to taste. Cook for a further 2 hours until potatoes and meat are soft.
Make pastry, and refrigerate for 20 min. Roll out and add to pie.
Cook for a further 15-20 min until pastry is cooked.
Serve with peas and brown sauce.
